Pork and I have a special relationship.

Regrettably (but perhaps not), this is not the same special relationship that Pete has with pork, which is purely linguistic--Pete's ability to employ "pork" as a verb is unparalleled in my experience for its originality and vibrance. Rather, dead pigs and I get along well. Specifically, pork tenderloin and I understand one another, especially when the weather permits me to fire up the Weber grill and cook the pork outside, over a bed of fiery coals. Pork eaten when I cook it this way may have addictive qualities.

I also have a special relationship with laziness. I have not been a good blogger for some time, and I could blame various things, including my crappy internet (see below), but I am going to really try and get better at this, because at least two people seem to care. And if I can touch the lives of only those two...well, I can't say that that's worth it, but at least this is a somewhat creative way to waste time. I know Matt Chernay loves those Top 5 lists, and Matt was, I have to say, an absolute champ at my wedding. So here it is:

Top 5 for the most recent period:

1) My damn wedding. I am convinced that October 8th, 2005 was the most fun I'm ever going to have in my life. All my homies were there, my senoritas, my friends and family, and very few people I didn't recognize. All around, people were having a great time. We danced the night away to a selection of pretty damn good songs, and the pictures even turned out pretty good. The next day, we ate some fine polish food and toasted with vodka. Very hard to put this adequately into words. Suffice to say the ushers put in all-star performances: John A remained in full tuxedo the entire night (until at least 3:00am), and Matt Chernay stayed up all night before driving to the airport to catch a 6:00am flight. Awesome. Special thanks to Pete, Bill, and Matt (once again) for all making a long trip and coming through like Spartans. And speaking of ancient history...

2) Rome, on HBO. Great show. Good acting, great dialogue, interesting plotlines, multidimensional characters, bloody hand-to-hand fighting, and--oh yeah--nudity on almost every episode. Don't pretend you aren't going to check it out now just because I said that. Suffice to say, this is TV-MA in the most glorious sense. Like Band of Brothers with spears, sandals and ancient rituals. Lucius Vorenus is your dad.

3) Full-speed internet access. I'm talking 500Kb+/sec, which was my norm until recently, when something fucked-up happened and I got kicked all the way down to 5kb/sec. In case you were wondering, we surpassed this speed for dialup in about 1997. So I wasn't too happy with my cable internet, for obvious reasons. I have been quite happy with my provider MDI Access, however, who finally fixed the problem by giving me my own ethernet connection to the main hub in my apartment complex. So basically I get a cable connection without having to share it with anyone. Good times--no, great times!

4) Chicago White Sox: World Champions. Many will likely be shocked by this statement, but I am not a sports bigamist. Instead, I agree with Bill, and hope this spurs an arms race between the Cubs and Sox for the affections of the Chicago's baseball fans. If ever there was a team that could use a kick in the ass and a reason to stop whining and start winning already, it's the Cubs. Giddyup, Northsiders: sign free agent Rafael Furcal, re-sign Todd Walker, let Murton play leftfield every day, fire Dusty Baker and Larry Rothschild and Dick Pole, get a real rightfielder, bring Pie up to see what he can do, get some middle relief, another starter, and a few bats on the bench, and you're in good shape. A century is a long time to wait, especially when there's another organization in town now officially kicking your ass.

PS. If the Sox win another world series in the next 3 years, I will drink 10mL of the disgusting liquid of John Dickey's choice.

5) Friday. And you know this, man.

Sorry, it's been awhile. Things are going quite well. Laura and I just hit our 1-year anniversary of being engaged to one another. We'll be married in less than a week. Amazing! Most everybody I love is going to be at this huge party that Laura and I are hosting...it's really amazing to think about. The days, if you couldn't tell, are going by so quickly. I will be much obliged to them when they slow down. I'm really looking forward to Laura moving in with me, and starting my adult life in earnest. Sounds cheesy, but I guess that's how we describe things that work out the way they should. It is bedtime. This was short, but it was a start. I'll try to be back in the habit.
