It's late and this will be short. The Cubs are still doing pretty well, but I'm really concerned about their weak offense. I ran over to the Starons' today (mid-60s, windy) and almost didn't break a sweat, despite having to puke the entire time because I'd eaten Portillos before running. Bad times.

Pete left for California today, which kind of sucks. I'm happy for him, and confident that he'll do well out there, but I will miss him. Even though we didn't hang out all that much, and though I'm looking forward to visiting him in San Francisco. It just seems weird. Perhaps that's because it is. Some things never change, you know. And some things do.

CUBS UPDATE:

They came back and won! I'm so into the Cubs it's pathetic, especially since I know they are going to break my heart every year. Today they broke form, however, and won with a little help from Juan Acevedo. It's unlike Joe Torre to make tactical errors, and perhaps R. Clemens really did have an upper respiratory infection today, explaining why he was pulled out after only 80-some pitches. But the Yankees' pen is not what it used to be, and the aforementioned Acevedo (who could stand to lose a few pounds) gave up a 3-run dong on his very first pitch to Eric Karros. I almost cried.

They got some insurance runs in the 8th, and there was some drama in the top half of both the 8th & 9th, but they held on and I am quite happy. When the Cubs win, it literally makes my day. When they lose, I can be a real jerk to deal with. Perhaps this makes me a diseased individual. I don't really care.
Bitches, I put in 12 miles this morning! Unfortunately, I had to drag myself the last 3 miles. I could blame it on the warmer weather--and dehydration was a major factor contributing to my fatigue--but I have to concede that I might not be cut out for insanely long mileage--like 26+. I mean, I felt like dying. And I didn't even run a half-marathon. Next long run is in 2 weeks--14 miles! It should be telling.

Cubs down 1-0 to the Yanks; if Clemens get the W I'll be pissed. I don't see the Cubs scoring in this game. Good Sammy Sosa, where have you gone!?

Aaaah June. It's still like 58 degrees here in Chicago, EVERY DAY. It's supposed to be warmer, and if it doesn't get warmer soon, I'm going to murder somebody. Speaking of maniac killing machines, I spoke with Pvt. William Jagnow this evening, and he sounded quite well. His comment on Basic Training for the U.S. Army: "It's this weird duality with everything. I simultaneously loved and hated it." Sounds about how I would have imagined it. Bill also reports that he is a Marksman and an Expert Grenadier, plus he's suddenly able to bench 260+, so I feel safe in the knowledge that my good friend is protecting the interests of this country. Good times. I love that kid.

I ran 10 miles the other day, which was fine. The old knees hurt quite a bit, I will say. This will be my last marathon attempt.

Not too much else to report, except that benefits from one's job are cool as hell. I'm not thinking straight right now.
